Mo-Index Methodology

Published scoring version: Mo-Index 2026.1

The Mo-Index (Moses/Mosa-Index) is an open-ended cumulative metric derived from weighted, documented scholarly accomplishments. It has no predetermined maximum score. TEDUHub calculates individual Mo-Index scores automatically from the scoring rules below. A Scholar's Mo-Index Analysis shows how these rules apply to that Scholar's records.

A zero score means that the applicable rule currently contributes no Mo-Points; where verification is required, zero may mean not yet verified rather than that the scholarly activity is of poor quality.

Research Collaboration and Internationalisation — Point Derivation

Research Collaboration Mo-Points are derived from eligible and verified scholarly records captured in TEDUHub. Collaboration is not scored from an unsupported self-declaration where the underlying scholarly record can be verified in TEDUHub.

Derivation rule: RC = Σ(Ni × Wi), subject to the approved cap for each collaboration measure, where Ni is the number of eligible verified occurrences of collaboration activity i and Wi is the approved Mo-Point value assigned to that activity.
Methodological requirementApplication in TEDUHub
Qualifying activityOnly an activity defined as eligible in the approved Mo-Index Research Collaboration scoring schedule can generate collaboration Mo-Points.
Unit of assessmentThe scoring schedule must state whether points are awarded per verified activity, output, partner, relationship or applicable assessment period.
Point value and capEach eligible measure must have a published Mo-Point value and, where applicable, a maximum allowable contribution.
Supporting evidencePoints must be traceable to the underlying TEDUHub record(s) and/or private supporting document used to establish the collaboration. Supporting documents may include official release/approval, invitation/acceptance, host-institution, grant/project, supervision or collaboration communications.
Evidence statusTEDUHub assigns collaboration evidence status automatically. System Verified is based on an appropriate linked TEDUHub record; Documentary Evidence Provided means a private supporting document has been supplied; Evidence Pending means adequate evidence is not yet available; Institutional Verification Required is used where an institutional claim cannot be established from the linked record alone; and Institutionally Verified can be assigned only after review by an authorised Institutional Admin.
Scoring eligibilityOnce collaboration scoring is activated, System Verified, Documentary Evidence Provided and Institutionally Verified records may qualify under the approved scoring schedule. Evidence Pending and Institutional Verification Required records do not generate collaboration Mo-Points until resolved.
Double countingIf an output is already scored elsewhere in the Mo-Index, Research Collaboration scores only its distinct collaborative attribute; the underlying scholarly output is not scored a second time as the same achievement.
Ranking analyticsQS-, THE- or other ranking-related indicators do not independently generate Mo-Points unless the underlying activity separately qualifies under the approved Mo-Index scoring schedule.
AuditabilityTEDUHub retains the underlying evidence and calculation parameters so an awarded collaboration score can be verified and recalculated.

Sustained international research partnership: for publication-based collaboration analysis, TEDUHub identifies a sustained relationship where the same international partner institution has at least three joint publications within a five-year period. This threshold is used as an externally informed collaboration criterion; it does not by itself create additional Mo-Points unless the approved Mo-Index scoring schedule assigns points to it.

Scoring safeguard: Numerical Research Collaboration weights and caps are not activated until they are explicitly approved and published in the Mo-Index scoring schedule. This prevents TEDUHub from assigning arbitrary collaboration points.

Citation Influence

MC = √C, where C is the deduplicated citation total from OpenAlex-matched published records. TEDUHub displays OpenAlex match coverage so the basis of the citation component remains visible.

Mo-Index Analysis

The Mo-Index Analysis is Scholar-specific. It shows component scores, Citation Influence and the Scholarly Strength Profile. The percentage shares describe the composition of that Scholar's total Mo-Index; they are not percentage performance scores.
